This widely praised novel (which was on the long list for the Man Booker Prize) begins as a mesmerizing tale about a British family of Pakistani descent, and ends as a heart-thudding drama. The author, who received an MFA from UMass, sets several scenes in the Amherst/Northampton area, but most of the action occurs in London. You will feel an urgent need to discuss the book’s themes of love for and loyalty to family and to ideology after finishing it; strongly recommended for book groups.
