Rebecca Makkai’s newest book is equal parts literary fiction and head-scratching whodunit. When film professor and podcaster, Bodie Kane is invited back to the New Hampshire boarding school she attended as a teenager, she finds herself drawn to investigate the murder of a classmate in 1995. As she helps four students make a podcast about the murder, she relives her teen years of being an outsider, living within a system of cliques, and not realizing that she was in possession of important information about the crime that led to the conviction of a man who may have been innocent.
