Novelist Cammie McGovern of Amherst has written a nonfiction book that is both a beautiful memoir of life with her son Ethan, who has autism and intellectual disability and is charming and loving, and a fascinating look at the options for housing and work for adult children like Ethan. For a year she traveled the country exploring the solutions that parents and organizers have created, finding reasons for hope in spite of the current grim outcomes for these Americans. Her research grew out of a New York Times piece that she wrote, and her work is shines with humor, love, and hope.
