The author of this remarkable book was raised by survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, where she and her six siblings prepared for the end of the world by stockpiling food. Born at home, Tara had no birth certificate; nor did she attend school or see doctors. No one intervened when one of her older brothers became violent. As a way out, Tara began to educate herself. Her quest for knowledge would transform her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge. Only then would she wonder if she’d traveled too far, if there was still a way home. Readers who loved The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls will savor this latest true tale of resilience against great odds.
