Relieved to escape the monotony of ranch life with his father, Jack is glad to find a job as a fishing guide at an exclusive resort out west, far from the viruses that have plagued the world for the past few years. He’s even happier when he is assigned as guide to Allison, a famous singer, who really knows how to fish. Yet there seems to be something off with the other guests – not to mention killer dogs on the property downstream and a sign that says “Don’t get shot” on the upstream property line. Beautiful writing creates a sense of place that draws the reader in, and delivers a can’t-put-down ending. (Some readers may remember Jack from the author’s previous book, The River.)
