As much as I believe in reading library books, this is one that many people will want to own and to refer to in hard times and to share with others. British writer Katherine May has perfectly captured the difficulty that many of us, the author included, have in slowing down, in admitting that they are struggling, in being kind and gentle to themselves when they are weary. She describes how she came to be overwhelmed and ailing, and how she learned to give herself permission to live more restfully. And she details how this attitude can help people to cope much more happily with harsh winters. Throughout she gives fascinating examples from literature, mythology, and the natural world.
