A tragic, beautiful tale set in the near future when the oceans and the skies are nearly empty of life. Our Irish protagonist, Franny Stone, is at the start of the book a person of mystery. Wild, haunted by her past, driven to be with the remaining birds on the planet, she acts recklessly with no concern for her life. She is, we learn, married to a man whom she loves deeply, but her passions drive her to wander the globe. With an outcast crew, she travels in a small boat over the most dangerous oceans in search of the world’s Arctic terns, tiny birds that make the longest migration of any creature, traveling from Greenland to Antarctica. As survival becomes more difficult for all on board, we discover the secrets Franny carries. For all who love birds and the wild.
