Friends Membership Letter

September 15, 2016

Dear Friends,

Now is the time to show your support for the Jones, Munson and North Amherst Libraries as Friends of the Jones Library System. Membership contributions to the Friends make the difference between minimum funding for libraries and excellent services. Please, we need your help. Make your contribution today.

Because of financial help from Library Friends like you, children, teens, families, and seniors in Amherst benefited from these exciting programs and services last year:

  • Extremely popular free events that enrich life for all children in Amherst, including five fabulous family concerts in the Children’s Music Series
  • Weekly “Sing With Your Baby” sessions for toddlers and free classes for children to develop skills in art
  • Library field trips for second-graders to get library cards and start reading for fun
  • New books purchased with $12,000 donated by the Friends
  • Free or discounted admission to 10 regional cultural attractions
  • Summer Reading Clubs to encourage youth, teens and grown-ups to talk about books
  • Hands-on computer help from Dr. Hank at Munson and North Amherst Libraries and new laptop computers for teens
  • Live poetry readings from local and nationally known poets in the jubilat/Jones series
  • The Kinsey Memorial Garden, a uniquely beautiful garden behind the Jones Library, maintained with funds provided by the Friends
Proceeds from fund-raisers like the Holiday Book Fair, Literary Feasts, and the sale of gift items vary from year to year. We rely on your annual membership contribution to sustain our work.

Volunteer Friends will be working hard for our libraries and our community throughout the coming year. I hope you will consider giving at least $50, although any membership level gift is certainly gratefully appreciated. Every contribution helps. As a special thank you, members who are able to make a contribution of $150 or more will receive a Friends signature mug complete with a special blend of tea from the Tea Guys!

It’s a proven fact that public libraries strengthen communities by helping individuals learn and grow. Ask Thomas Edison, Martin Luther King, Jr., Oprah Winfrey or Sonia Sotomayor — they all found encouragement at their public library. Your membership contribution will go directly to enrichment programs and library materials that help make our community a better place to live and learn. We are counting on your friendship and support!

Sincerely,

Bonnie Isman Signature
