Poem #585: Fascicles

Emily Dickinson handwrote her poems. She gathered together what appear to be finished copies into private collections now called fascicles. Poem #585 was in fascicle 19. On the next page is a mock version of the manuscript which mimics some of its characteristics. As much as possible, spacing and line breaks are imitated. The crosses in the stanzas correspond to what appears in the original, as do Dickinson's alternate word choices which are laid out vertically on the right margin.

Note that this version of the poem has no number or title. Note, too, that Dickinson did not make clear where her alternates were to be placed in the poem.
