Hennepin County Library - The Superstar of Libraries! Find books similar to those you like.

Boone County Public Library - Boone County has a large readalike list, with impressive categories.

Morton Grove Library - Another superstar, Morton Grove Library, hosts the Fiction_L booklists and archives. Fiction_L is a listserv for readers advisors, with an amazing archive. When you are stumped for a title, post to this listserv and you'll be astounded how quickly your query is answered!







Databases to search for reading suggestions:

NoveList from EBSCO - (You will be prompted to enter your patron ID - this is your C/W Mars library card number.)
This database is a reader's advisory service for fiction readers of all ages. You can browse through lists which are arranged by themes. For example, they have adventure, romance, mysteries and thrillers, science fiction, westerns, horror, and fantasy as categories. You can also enter a favorite author or title and find similar books. Other options let you look through award lists, or search by keywords. In addition, book discussion guides are included for some of the titles.

Whichbook.net - Unique book recommendation system with excellent titles. British focus.

Allreaders.com - Genre and literature search engines that allow custom searches. Enter your own reviews and become one of their scholars.

Overbooked - A web site for ravenous readers. Overbooked specializes in providing timely information about literary and genre fiction as well as readable non-fiction. Excellent themed lists. A non-profit web site, run by a librarian in her spare time!

BookBrowser - They claim the most reader-friendly, intuitive search engine on the Web. Now owned by Barnes and Noble. Not to be confused with the proceeding entry.

BookBrowse - You have to pay to be a member of this site, but there's plenty of things for free, e.g. book club advice, reading guides, browsing by genre, and browsing by recent hardcovers and paperbacks.

Know A Good Book - This site brings together many web sites that offer help in finding a "good book."

BookSense.com - Affiliation of independent bookstores online presence - lists, subject searching, author connections and lots more.

Google - Hot tip: type "read-alikes" along with the word library as a Google search: this will get you to lots of library lists. If you include name of author you are trying to match, so much the better.
