ReferenceUSA - Available in the library or from home with a Jones Library card, this is a database containing information on over 13 million US businesses. Searches can be done by region and industry.

InfoTrac General Business File - Accessible with a C/W MARS library card. Provides information on company performance and industry trends by searching broker repoorts, trade publications, newspapers and company directory profiles.

Websites

Hoover's Online - The information you get for free includes financial data, website address, top competitors, and news stories, including press releases. Paying members get access to more detailed information.

WetFeet - Company profiles include financial statistics, opportunities, website address for contacting the company. Often the information comes from Hoover's Company Capsules. If you're registered with WetFeet (which is free), you can also get more information on the company or on the industry. This site also has advice on careers and resumes.

CorporateInformation - Over 350,000 companies are listed in this database. You'll find company description, competitor analysis, sales analysis, financial position, and industry overview. Registration, which is free, is required.

GuideStar - For information on over 640,000 nonprofits in the United States, try this website. For an organization, you can find their mission and programs, financial data, board members and read the Form 990 that they file with the IRS.
