The Jones Library accepts materials in good condition the first seven days of every month, due to space and staffing limitations. We will accept up to 2 bags or boxes per day per donor. At other times we will accept only the following materials in excellent condition: hardcover bestsellers, DVDs, compact discs, unabridged books on cassette or CD. The library reserves the right to add donated materials to sell or otherwise dispose of any materials not selected for addition to the collections.
For larger donations please contact the Adult Services Librarian, Beth Girshman, 259-3090 or at girshmanb@joneslibrary.org, to make arrangements. We can not arrange pickup of materials from your home.
To donate children's materials, please speak with Children's Room staff any day.
To donate materials relating to Pioneer Valley history and Amherst authors, please contact Tevis Kimball, Curator of Special Collections, Monday - Friday or at kimballt@joneslibrary.org
The Jones Library welcomes donated materials to consider adding to the library or for the Friends of the Library book sales ONLY IF they meet the following criteria:
- Not water damaged, musty, or moldy (mold on books will spread and is dangerous to the condition of the existing collections as well as the health of persons in the library)
- clean (not dirty, dusty, greasy or food stained) and free of smoke or other apparent odors
- unmarked (by pen, highlighter or crayons)
- in good physical condition (no broken bindings, loose or torn pages, damaged covers)
- books in selected languages are accepted ONLY if an ISBN is available and the title and publishing information has been translated or transliterated. Our staff does not have the expertise to do translation in-house.
Jones Library collections emphasize current information and creative works. We do NOT accept:
- Textbooks
- Travel books, other than current year
- Test preparation study guides, other than current year
- Health books, publication date of more than 3 years ago
- Materials which have been recorded for home use from the original
Donations are tax deductible, but the library does not assign valuations for tax purposes. See reverse for receipt of gifts received.
Thank you.
