2006 Music Series Program

The 31st annual music series for children ages 3-10 will be held at the Jones Library in the Large Meeting Room on the following dates. Admission is free due to the generosity of the Friends of the Jones Library System and the Amherst Cultural Council.

Cancellations due to snow will be announced on TV Channels 22 and 40.

KLEZAMIR

FEBRUARY 3

New England's premier roots rockin' klezmir band presents a rousing, danceable concert of thrilling new takes on old Yiddish favorites, as well as original klezmir barnburners. You'll enjoy multi-instrumentalists Jim Armenti, Jason Moses, and Amy Rose on clarinet, flute, violin, guitar, mandolin, accordion, trombone, and piano, backed up by Keith "Klezmer Drums of Passion" Leverault and "Downtown Joe" Blumenthal on the bass (and sometimes the nose flute!). We'll teach you some easy dances and a few words of Yiddish too!

YOUTH CHAMBER MUSIC GROUPS

Young musicians under the direction of Catalina Arrubla will play classical compositions including Mozart and Renaissance pieces. Catalina will demonstrate the musical instruments and will explain melody, harmony and rhythm.

BILL SHONTZ

FEBRUARY 16
Saturday at 10:30

Bill will sing mostly original songs and play the ancient didgeridu, clarinet, flute and other instruments. Featured will be songs about books and songs about bears in books, like Winnie the Pooh.

CARAVAN PUPPETS WITH JONATHAN KEEZING

Timeless tales featuring a collection of short multi-cultural and original skits. Audiences are treated to a wide diversity of puppetry styles with beautiful staging and original music.

NERISSA AND KATRYNA NIELDS

This well-known local duo will perform songs from their album "All Together Singing in the Kitchen", which features original songs as well as old favorites.

THE POP ROCKETS

The band is comprised of four parents who have joined together to create original rock music for young kids and their far-out grown-ups.
