FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Who can borrow an E-Reader?

To borrow an E-Reader, you must be at least 18 years old with a valid photo ID and a C/W Mars library card in good standing. You must also read and sign an E‑Reader Borrower Agreement [PDF] at the time of check-out.

  • How long can I borrow an E-Reader?

An E-Reader can be borrowed for one week. At this time, it cannot be renewed.

  • How do I get started?

To request an E-Reader, call the Jones Library Reference Desk at 413-259-3096. We will contact you when the device is available. It can then be picked up at the Reference Desk.

  • Where do I return the E-Reader?

The E-Reader must be returned to the Reference Desk and handed directly to a staff person. It cannot be returned to any other library and it cannot be returned in a library drop box. An overdue fine of $1 per day will be charged if the E-Reader is not returned by its due date.

  • Are the E-Readers pre-loaded with books?

Yes. Our E-Readers are pre-loaded with a selection of contemporary fiction, contemporary non-fiction, and classics. Please see TITLES PRE-LOADED ON OUR NOOKS (at left) for a partial list. We are planning to add additional titles in the future.

  • Can I request a specific title to read?

Not at this time. Our hope is that you will find a pre-loaded title that interests you enough that you can experience what it's like to read on the device.

  • Can I check-out a library e-book on an E-Reader?

Our E-Readers are compatible with e-books that can be borrowed from the Jones Library through our Digital Catalog. We are very happy to demonstrate the process of borrowing an e-book at the Reference Desk. However, due to some logistical limitations, you are not permitted to borrow an e-book using a borrowed E-Reader. Please see our E‑Reader Rules of Use [PDF] for more information.

  • What happens if I lose the E-Reader?

If the device is lost, stolen, or broken while in your care, you must pay the applicable replacement fee. Please see the E‑Reader Borrower Agreement [PDF] for details.
