Throughout the month of October, Amherst and surrounding communities will host a series of family oriented events and educational programs in conjunction with the 2nd annual Amherst Reads, a community-wide initiative designed to promote literacy and the joy of reading. Now in it's second year, each year a different book or author will be selected as the literary "pick" for Amherst Reads. Similar to other "one city, one book" programs going on throughout the country, children and adults from Amherst and its surrounding towns will all be encouraged to read the same book or author. For the current year of Amherst Reads, the Amherst Reads Committee selected the exciting children's author Jon Scieszka.
